How do you start a project?
I begin my projects by thoroughly understanding the vision and needs of my clients, establishing a solid foundation for our collaboration. This is where brainstorming and creativity truly come to life. By utilizing sketches, colors, textures, and materials, we create the fundamental blueprint for the project ahead.
I then proceed to develop my proposal, culminating in a unique, functional, and tailor-made design for my client—creating spaces where functionality and art seamlessly converge.
Drawing on local products and artisanal craftsmanship, I bring my concept to fruition, presenting it through mood boards, perspectives, and renderings. My projects are the product of immense passion and effort, which ultimately result in beautiful, distinctive challenges and achievements.
What are the steps from the original request to the final concept?
The journey from inception to completion can indeed be challenging, as we are constantly evolving, refining, and perfecting the core idea of the project. For this particular collaboration in interior design, my aim has always been to uphold the principles of functionality, elegance, and timeless aesthetic. I drew inspiration from the breathtaking landscapes of this location, including the sea, the sky, and the stunning city views.
How does your personal view on living differ from that of the client? Is it easy or difficult to find a balance between the two?
I always try to maintain a balance with my clients, because it is key for the development of the project. As a designer, it is my duty to listen to their needs and ideas, and then use my knowledge, creativity, and vision to bring them to life. Clients seek me out specifically for my unique perspective and the distinctive touch I bring to each project.
How important is it for you and your clients to include your exclusive and collectable pieces within a home?
By incorporating unique pieces in my projects, I have not only added value to the house, but also fostered a community that highlights the talents of both Dominican and foreign artists. These pieces, which are typically limited editions, artisanal, or one-of-a-kind, are exclusive and not accessible to everyone. I believe that a work of art holds more value than a mere collection of objects.
Why did you choose Gropius Chairs for this project?
To begin with, NOOM's elegance, functionality, aesthetics, and innovative thinking are unparalleled in the market. The Gropius Chair is the key piece the project was missing: an iconic and sophisticated chair that perfectly harmonizes with its surroundings, adding a special touch to the space. This piece blends so subtly and elegantly that it enhances any environment in which it is placed.
What was important for a client?
For clients, it is essential to prioritize their needs and ensure we are both aligned on the goals and desired outcomes. It is important not to sacrifice comfort, art, and values that align with their daily lives and personal values. At the end of the day, I do not just create spaces; I create environments for people to live in harmoniously and, ultimately, to call home.
What will the living spaces of tomorrow will look like?
The spaces of tomorrow are likely to emphasize sustainability, smart technologies, and flexible solutions. Additionally, I believe it is essential to incorporate well-being through unique pieces, comfortable environments, and artisanal crafts that connect us to our country of origin. This is also of utmost importance.
